What is the Vancouver Christian Science Nursing Service (VCSNS)?

In following the directions of Article VIII, Section 31 of the Manual of the Mother Church, the Christian Science Visiting Nurse provides the skills and healing atmosphere which allows those physically challenged to remain in their homes.  The Christian Science nurse is the vital, pivotal presence of the Christ in action, right on the ‘firing line’ of relatives and neighbors and all they imagine Christian Science to be – or not.

The role of the Vancouver Christian Science Nursing Service (VCSNS) is to facilitate this by providing a full-time Christian Science nurse to fill this role, and for the last few years Allyson Shone has fulfilled this mission in our community and we are very grateful for her love and devotion. By providing her with an appropriate retainer the VCSNS has ensured the availability of a qualified Christian Science nurse to service a field that stretches from Vancouver Island through Alberta and beyond.

This shift in focus on the part of the VCSNS — away from providing benevolence and financial assistance for nurse training — to the provision of a full-time Christian Science nurse has been made possible by the following factors:

In 2011 the Christian Science National Benevolence Fund (CSNBF) was established to assist individuals — across Canada  — with nursing and practitioner costs who are relying on Christian Science for healing. The goal of the CSNBF is to remove concerns for expenses that may dissuade the individual from relying solely on Christian Science. Requests for benevolence should be forwarded to CSNBF at Suite 808 – 35 Church Street, Toronto, ON M5E 1T3 email: secretary@csnbf.ca.

Nurse Training

Trust Canada is now providing financial assistance for nurse training and travel expenditures leaving the VCSNS free to concentrate on its primary purpose. Requests for financial assistance for nurse training should be forwarded to Trust Canada at P.O. Box 234, 7101C 120th Street, Delta, BC V4E 2A9 email: trustcan@gmail.com.

Does the VCSNS provide nursing equipment?

We have a small selection of nursing equipment that we are happy to lend including a wheelchair,  walkers, canes, etc. If additional equipment needs to be rented, you may apply for financial assistance as long as you are utilizing the services of a Christian Science nurse or practitioner.

What should I do if I need the services of a Christian Science Nurse or Christian Science in-home care provider?
